PROJECT: End-to-End Supply Chain Software Suite
ROLE: UI Design Lead
DURATION: 12 months
TOOLS: UXPin, Sympli, Sketch, Axure RP Pro, Microsoft tools

The Problem

IBM was tasked with creating a supply chain decision support platform for Jabil called InControl, the platform offers five applications that provide visibility, collaboration tools and diagnostics for supply chain professionals. The apps cover supply chain visibility, event risk, design for supply chain, risk management and supply chain diagnostics.

“Today’s supply chains and tools aren’t architected to effectively address all of the requirements our customers need to compete and win in an increasingly digital ecosystem,” Don Hnatyshin, senior vice president and chief supply chain and procurement officer for Jabil, said in a press release accompanying the launch. “InControl was designed for, and by, supply chain practitioners to provide the real-time intelligence, visibility and analytics our customers have been asking for so they can move with B2C speed and agility in a B2B world.”

The Resolution

Was the Lead Visual Designer responsible for the visual designs of all 5 applications and a master style guide.

I led 2 other visual designers that were contributing to the master design files for each app.

I implemented a Change Log where we recorded  design changes to the design master. Log included the date, the app and screen, a description of the change, status of completion, a Change Log ID or PCR ID if there was one, and status if it has been updated/uploaded to UXPin and/or Sympli.

Created user experience patterns for global assets and created the mobile screens. Served as the application architect on the project. During the Pilot and User Acceptance Testing phases, managed the quality of the work from the different offshore implementation teams.

The Impact

Jabil’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering adds a new entrant to the procurement technology mix that can boast something few other providers can claim: broad and deep expertise in managing the end-to-end supply chain across multiple industries, verticals and geographies. That gives Jabil a distinct selling point compared with providers that offer point solutions for risk management, supply chain optimization and related areas.

Prior to design changes being submitted, I ensured that there was an approved CR or that the wireframes had been approved by the client. Once the wireframes were approved and I completed the design(s), I then sent them for internal review by the Information Architect. Once s/he approved the design(s), I then uploaded it to Sympli and Box and sent out an email to the offshore development team lead for implementation. If the change was because of a defect in Jira, I made my comments and re-assigned it to the developer lead for implementation.

Any changes made to the style guide was also documented in the style guide’s change log and first sent to offshore for viability and approval before making the update(s). While designing, I consulted the style guide and other approved designs ensuring that standards were being followed.
