IBM CC&CA World Community Grid
PROJECT: World Community Grid Re-brand and Re-design
ROLE: Visual Designer
DURATION: 12 months
TOOLS: Illustrator, Photoshop, Zeplin, Jira, Microsoft tools
The Problem
Re-brand and re-design the World Community Grid website.
1. WCG should follow IBM’s projects branding, yet retain it’s own identity.
2. Use web-safe fonts. Do not include text in images.
3. Must be able to be translated into different languages.
4. Stakeholders do not want the website to look corporate.
Logo is dated and needs to be updated.
1. Create a bold logo that is easy to use in different assets.
2. Branding for logo has to be separate from IBM’s branding.
3. Logo should focus on what we do – not on grid computing.
4. No acronyms.
5. Create a marque and logo-type.
6. Explore a new tagline.
World Community Grid is losing volunteers, therefore the UI and UX of the website needs to be updated to be simpler and more appealing to a larger audience.
Text content needs to be revised to be less technical.

The Resolution
Came in as a Visual Designer alongside a Program Manager, a Solution Architect, a UX Design Lead, a Visual Design Lead, and 3 Developers.
This project was run in waterfall with requirements defined and prioritized before I joined the team.
For the new look and feel, created 3x3 designs for project leadership to choose the new branding and design direction.
Once the design was chosen, I started creating additional pages that I would present weekly to the team for review.
Provided various designs for a new logo. New logo design was based on project requirements gathered from initial team meetings.
Helped come up with a new color palette or expand on IBM’s Smarter Cities palette.
Participated in meetings and gave design presentations as needed.
Created various design templates for social media, PowerPoint, and email.

As the visual designer for the new website, designed 5 different styles of which this one was chosen. Created all screens and states.
